Exclusive: Drake Has A 'Good' Feeling About Justin Bieber Collabo
Toronto MC talks up the Believe track 'Right Here' and details his plans to hit the studio after his Club Paradise Tour.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/drake/artist.jhtml">Drake</a> has a jam-packed schedule taking his <a href="/news/articles/1681570/drake-j-cole-waka-flocka-club-paradise-tour.jhtml">Club Paradise Tour</a> city to city, but the Toronto rap star still manages to find time to record, especially since he has a studio on his tour bus. Right after Club Paradise's last show in Boston, Massachusetts, Drizzy will begin recording new music, possibly for his next album.</P><P>"I'm really excited to start working on new music. I start like June 18," Drake told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway when the two met backstage in <a href="/news/articles/1685366/drake-club-paradise-houston.jhtml">Houston</a> on May 17.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Drake Has Been Working On New Music With 40, Hit-Boy And Justin Bieber" id="vid:782382" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"I got a studio bus out here so me and 40 started working on a couple joints the other night. Just getting warmed up," he continued. "I did like the 'Amen' track for Meek [Mill] and I did 'No Lie' for 2Chainz."</P><P>Fans have already raved over Drizzy's performance on both <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/05/01/2-chainz-no-lie-drake-based-tru-story/">"No Lie"</a> and "Amen," which appears on the Philadelphia MC's recently released <a href="/news/articles/1684645/meek-mill-dream-chasers-2-mixtape.jhtml"><i>Dream Chasers 2</i> mixtape</a>. Still, the Young Money star has a few more collaborations that fans will hear in the coming weeks, one of them being French Montana's "Pop That."</P><P>"I'm on French Montana's single; me, him, Ross and Wayne, which is a crazy lineup," Drake said. "And then on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s record. I wrote a song for him as well."</P><P>At the time of the interview, Drake wasn't sure of the name of the Bieber record or if the song would even be included on Justin's upcoming <i>Believe</i> LP. "Awkward Justin Bieber moment," Drizzy joked after pondering the very slim chance that he wouldn't make the final cut. "Yeah, we'll see. It's a good song though; produced by Hit-Boy."</P><P>Well, Drake doesn't have to worry. On Monday, the Biebs unveiled his <a href="/news/articles/1685471/justin-bieber-believe-track-list.jhtml"><i>Believe</i> track list</a>, and his fellow Canadian does appear on the song "Right Here." We have no reason to doubt Drake's word about "Right Here," but we'll all will just have to wait until June 19 when <i>Believe</i> is released to finally hear it.</P><P><i>Are you excited to hear Justin and Drake's "Right Here"? Dimmu Borgir Release Live DVD; Plus Led Zeppelin, Brujeria, & More News That Rules, In Metal File
'It shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums,' guitarist says.

<P>On October 14, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/borgir_dimmu/artist.jhtml">Dimmu Borgir</a>Dimmu Borgir — who just happen to be <a href="/news/articles/1593780/demi-lovato-metalhead-metal-file.jhtml">Demi Lovato's favorite black-metal band</a> — will release a a three-disc DVD/CD set called "The Invaluable Darkness," the band's first visual offering since 2002's "World Misanthropy." Boasting live footage shot last year, during gigs in Norway, Germany and England, "The Invaluable Darkness" demonstrates the unbridled furor of seeing Dimmu live, guitarist Silenoz said.</P><P>"It shows the honest rawness and atmospheric darkness of our concerts," the Norwegian told <i>Metal File</i> last week, after <a href="/news/articles/1596201/this-moment-make-dream-reality-metal-file.jhtml">dismissing recent online rumors that his band's next LP would be coming out through Roadrunner Records</a>. "Basically, it shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums. It's just a different side to the band, basically."</P><P>Dimmu Borgir began thinking about "The Invaluable Darkness" two years ago, but didn't start capturing footage until last summer, Silenoz explained, adding that the band will use its current stint on the Blackest of the Black Tour — which got underway Thursday night in Miami Beach, Florida, and also features the tour's founder, Danzig, along with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/moonspell/artist.jhtml">Moonspell</a>Moonspell, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/winds_of_plague/artist.jhtml">Winds of Plague</a>Winds of Plague and Skeletonwitch — to promote the DVD. Dimmu Borgir will not, however, use the tour to write material for their next LP.</P><P>"It's our first time on Blackest, but Glenn [Danzig] had wanted to bring us out before [on the tour], but we weren't available until now," Silenoz said. "We've done Ozzfest before, but we're looking forward to this tour more. We did the main stage on Ozzfest, playing in f--_ing broad daylight. This tour will let us play in bigger places, but at the same time showcase more of what the band's about, visually. We are going to concentrate on the tour for now. Some years ago, we tried putting [material] together on the road, but once we got home, we listened back to it, and were like, 'What the f--- <i>is</i> this?' So, we just scrapped it all. We find it's so much better to totally focus on one thing at a time, and then, when that's over, you move on to the next [thing]. We don't really feel like we need to rush things, anyway, so we'll just take our time, and it's going to be what it's going to be."</P><P>Dimmu Borgir hope to reconvene in late December to begin writing the follow-up to 2007's diabolically titled <i>In Sorte Diaboli.</i> "We have some ideas floating around already, but we haven't arranged any material yet," he said. "We'll start doing that once the touring for this DVD is over." The band's frontman, Shagrath, is also due to marry soon — he's engaged to actor Nicolas Cage's ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, so that may have an effect on when Dimmu finish their next album, which Silenoz said could be out this coming spring.</P><P>"I'm sure [Shagrath] won't let anything get in the way [of] the band — I think, I hope," the guitarist said. "We don't need a Yoko [Ono] situation."</P><P>While Dimmu have been at it going on 15 years now, Silenoz said he doesn't think their forthcoming material will be much of a departure from their previous black-metal offerings.</P><P>"And we have always been about more than just that term, 'black metal,' " he said. "Luckily for us, the older you get, the less concerned you get with the categorization and putting labels on your music. Things start getting more and more limitless with us, and we know that we operate within certain frames. But we try not to analyze things too much, because it's just going to be working against you in the end. When we write new stuff, we don't think about what we should write — we just get together, and put material together, and if we like it, we keep it. That's the formula, if we even have a formula."</P><P>Dimmu Borgir are definitely getting older — guitarist Galder will be missing Blackest because of a recent addition to his family, and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/susperia/artist.jhtml">Susperia's</a>Susperia's Cyrus will be filling in for him; while former <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/vader/artist.jhtml">Vader</a>Vader drummer Dariusz Brzozowski takes over for Hellhammer, who had to leave the band in 2007 after sustaining a neck injury that's now limited the use of his right arm. As Dimmu has gotten on in years, Silenoz admits they have failed to keep pace with some of the more extreme black-metal acts that have followed in their wake.</P><P>"We helped open doors for the more extreme bands out there," Silenoz said. "I'm sure we helped open doors for bands like Watain, [insomuch as] people that had maybe started listening to us first then went on to the more extreme stuff. Let's face it — we're not as extreme as Watain and other bands like that, but we're fine with that."</P><P>The Blackest of the Black Tour continues through November 10 in San Francisco.</P><P>The rest of the week's metal news:</P><P>Dimmu's tourmates on Blackest, <b>Winds of Plague</b>, have announced ex-<b>Azusa</b> drummer <b>Art Cruz</b> has joined their ranks — he replaced <b>Jeff Tenney</b>. According to the band's blog, "Art has already added a new spark to the band and has provided us with a solid backbone that will allow us to continue our rampage stronger than ever." ...</P><P>What the world really needs is another <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml"><b>Led Zeppelin</b></a><b>Led Zeppelin</b> box set, so, on November 4, Rhino Records will issue the <i>Led Zeppelin Definitive Collection Mini LP Replica CD</i> box set. Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?
During band's rehearsal break for Sunday's Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test.

<P><b>UNIVERSAL CITY, California</b> — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the <a href="/music/artist/foo_fighters/artist.jhtml">Foo Fighters</a> — set to perform at Sunday's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2011/">Movie Awards</a> — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin?</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="The Foo Fighters Take The Movie Awards Quiz" id="vid:660301.id:1664959" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>Right? Before we put MTV News' magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a "Twilight" character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Usher Unveils 'Nostalgic' New Song 'Twisted'
Looking 4 Myself track featuring Pharrell is classic R&B but 'very relevant,' superstar says on 'MTV First.'

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> sat down for an exclusive "MTV First" interview about his hotly anticipated upcoming release, <i>Looking 4 Myself</i>, his unconventional album-listening experience with the <a href="/news/articles/1685095/usher-twisted-climax-scream-mtv-premiere.jhtml">off-Broadway show "Fuerza Bruta"</a> and to give fans a first listen to the <i>Myself</i> track "Twisted" featuring Pharrell. He told MTV News' Sway Calloway the song is a "nostalgic record" that reflects the album's ambitious aim to represent the variety of musical experiences that have impacted the R&B superstar.</P><P>" 'Twisted' is more of a nostalgic record, so when you think about the classic R&B record, we managed a way to modernize it, even though that's very relevant," the singer said. "You hear records like Cee Lo, you hear Bruno Mars and also Andre 3000, and that sound is very relevant in this time. So this was kind of our way to tie it all together and give you something different that you probably wouldn't normally get from me."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Calls 'Twisted' A 'Nostalgic' Record" id="vid:767985.id:1685137" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Adapting current sounds and making them his own is a theme Usher is bringing in earnest to <i>Looking 4 Myself</i> and also reflects his philosophy of how to stay in the game. The star released his self-titled debut in 1994, when he was just 16, and has gone on to sell over 65 million records worldwide and score nine #1 songs and six more top 10 hits.</P><P>As for how he's managed to stay on top for so long, Usher revealed that it's important to never be insular when it comes to music. "Life is a workout, man, it's like a treadmill, and you gotta be with it, you gotta just stay with it," he said. "For me, I've had the fortunate ability to always be mindful of other things and other people. I'm not so caught up in what I'm doing that I can't be cognizant of what other people enjoy. ... Now, I think music should be used as a channel to really allow people to have different experiences. So, this album is all about bottling up those different experiences."</P><P>The connecting tissue that's given Usher the ability to explore world music — from full-on dance tracks like his new single "Scream" and his collaboration with David Guetta, "Without You," to more classic R&B slow jams like "Climax" and the old-school spare drum beat of "Twisted" — while delivering cohesive records has been his voice, which he said brings "the essence of soul and emotion" to each record.</P><P>"All of my career is kind of an unveiling, an unfolding story, and it ain't done. There's so much more that I'm going to do, so much that I've now just been interested in and been introduced to," he continued. "I just want that experience of having this very monogamous relationship with entertainment and acting in a way where I can really, really focus and become better."</P><P>Usher's commitment to tackling the changing face of music head-on and forging new roads in entertainment as he matures — he is currently training for a Sugar Ray Leonard biopic — is the key to his success, he said, concluding, "It's all about evolution for me."</P><P><i>Share your review of "Twisted" in the comments below!</i></p>

Justin Bieber Gets His Own Graduation On 'Ellen DeGeneres Show'

<P>A few weeks back, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> officially became a <a href="/news/articles/1684665/justin-bieber-graduates-high-school.jhtml">high school graduate</a>. But given that he was schooled on the road, the 18-year-old didn't have the pleasure of donning a cap and gown at an official graduation ceremony.</P><P>So when he stopped by <a href="http://ellen.warnerbros.com/" target="_blank">Ellen DeGeneres' talk show</a> on an episode airing Wednesday (May 23), the comedian attempted to rectify the situation.</P><P>Finally getting the chance to wear a gown and a custom-made cap that hovers over his hair so as not to muss it up, Bieber was handed a diploma by DeGeneres, who told the room, "Good afternoon. Today is an important day. It's Dollar Taco Day at the Warner Bros. cafeteria. We're here to honor the accomplishment of the Biebs, a great American who happens to be from Canada. Justin, you finally made it. You're graduating and I'm so proud of you. Usher Sought 'Creative Way' To Debut Looking 4 Myself
Singer will open up about his appearance in the off-Broadway show 'Fuerza Bruta,' as well his new album, during 'MTV First' on Wednesday.

<P>Sure, anyone can hold an album-listening party at some record label's headquarters or, to really mix it up, some swanky nightclub. But for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>, that just wasn't enough. When he was looking for a way to debut tracks off <a href="/news/articles/1684389/usher-looking-4-myself-cover-neck-tattoo.jhtml"><i>Looking 4 Myself</a>,</i> out June 12, he found another way to spread the word.</P><P>Last month, Usher appeared in the off-Broadway show <a href="/news/articles/1684028/usher-fuerza-bruta-looking-for-myself.jhtml">"Fuerza Bruta,"</a> in which he played the male lead, Running Man, for one night only. During the show, he played all his newest, shiniest tracks for lucky theatergoers. When MTV News spoke to him exclusively during rehearsals, he explained that his part in "Fuerza" provided the perfect pairing between the themes on his album and the visuals of the play.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Exclusive First Look At Usher's 'Fuerza Bruta' Performance" id="vid:769347.id:1685086" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"I mean, life is like that in a lot of ways. This was something that I organically came to," he explained. "When you think about the lyrics of 'Climax,' 'Going nowhere fast/ We reached the climax' ... 'Going nowhere fast' would be running in place," he explained, referring to a part in the show where he runs on a treadmill, never actually ending up anywhere.</P><P>"<i>Looking 4 Myself,</i> I'm walking with my head down, counting every step," he explained, referring to another act in the show. "I'm always trying to find very creative ways for the music and the art to work together and this is it. I only hoped it would be viewed in that way, in an unprecedented way. I hoped that people would be able to identify with it and become acclimated with my experience in a fun way, creative. This was kind of an emotional experience that leads you into my world."</P><P>Usher has even more to share about his experience in the show as well as his highly anticipated album release. When Barack Obama expressed his support for gay marriage, it was bound to create controversy and lead to dissenting opinions.
Some were explained reasonably enough (boxer Manny Pacquiao), others made positively no sense (teen mom Bristol Palin) and at least one has now surfaced that is as disturbing as it gets.
In a sermon to his congregation at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina on May 13, pastor Charles L. Worley outlined his idea vision for homosexuals:
"Build a great, big, large fence - 150 or 100 mile long - put all the lesbians in there… Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can't get out...and you know what, in a few years, they'll die out...do you know why? They can't reproduce!"
Worley went on to say the thought of "kissing some man" makes him "pukin’ sick."

<P><b>LAS VEGAS</b> — As was expected, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1685460/justin-bieber-boyfriend-billboard-music-awards.jhtml">Justin Bieber's show-stopping performance of "Boyfriend"</a> at Sunday's (May 20) <i>Billboard</i> Music Awards brought out the squeals and the swag.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Breaks Down Billboard Awards 'Boyfriend' Performance" id="vid:770729.id:1685461" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>When MTV News caught up with Bieber on the white carpet for the awards show, just before his big number, the teenage superstar said his expectations for the evening were relatively simple: He just wanted everyone to have fun and to be able to show off all the hard work he's been putting into his dance moves.</P><P>"This performance is going to be fun. I practiced a lot in the dance studio," Bieber said. "I've been working hard, and I can't wait to show the fans what I've been working so hard on." Since the other members of Bieber's musical family — Carly Rae Jepsen and Usher — were also performing, did the trio discuss any feelings of friendly competition or joke around about which performance would be better than the others?</P><P>"[It's] not a competition. It's all love," Bieber said with a smile. "We're all a family. Carly is my artist, and I'm Usher's artist, so it's kind of cool that we're all performing here, together.</P><P>For first-time <i>Billboard</i> Music Awards attendee and performer Jepsen, the goal for the night was to remember to take a moment to soak it all in.</P><P>"I want to feel happy when I'm onstage," she said. "A lot of times you kind of get caught up in the performance and then you worry and then it's over and you think, 'I didn't even enjoy it.' So tonight, after [having a successful] soundcheck this morning, it's going to be about having fun. Justin Bieber Drinks Beer But 'Never Gets Out Of Control'
'You know, you can't trust anyone in this business,' pop star tells GQ.

<P>It's not always easy being <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. At least that's what the latest profile about the teen superstar in <a href="http://www.gq.com/entertainment/celebrities/201206/justin-bieber-gq-june-2012-interview?currentPage=1" target="_blank"><i>GQ</i></a> suggests. While Bieber does open up a bit about his personal life, he remains mostly guarded, sharing very little about what goes on when the cameras aren't rolling or he's not in the recording studio.</P><P>"I mean, I keep my guard up a lot, because you know, you can't trust anyone in this business," Bieber says in the June issue of the magazine. "That's what's sad. You can't trust anybody. I learned the hard way."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Strives For Perfection" id="vid:765701.id:1684329" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>The article notes that Bieber seems to mostly go from his house to his car to the studio, with little time for spontaneity. While he remained tight-lipped in the interview, he confesses that he does on occasion let his guard down. But even then, he tries to never let anything get out of hand. "For me, it's just like, I like to be in control of myself," he said. "I mean, I've had a beer, like, before. ... But I never get out of control."</P><P>Bieber seemed most relaxed during the interview when his pricey new car, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, is sent to him at the studio. With his friends, handlers and associates on hand, he proclaims to everyone that they should head into the studio with him and celebrate by listening to some of his new music. "I'm 18 years old and I'm a swaggy adult!" he says. "Come on, swaggy bros!"</P><P>That swagger is noted later on in the article when Bieber says, "I've never made a bad song."</P><P>Another candid Bieber moment comes later on. When hanging in the studio after working on a track for <a href="/news/articles/1684079/justin-bieber-believe-album-cover.jhtml"><i>Believe</a>,</i> which drops next month, one of his pals bashes his onetime crush Kim Kardashian, and he quickly comes to her defense, saying, "People say she doesn't do anything; she actually does do stuff. ... She works hard."</P><P>When MTV News sat down with Bieber to premiere his <a href="/news/articles/1684454/justin-bieber-boyfriend-mature-video.jhtml">"Boyfriend" video</a> recently, he told us that he always tries to be the best he can be. "I think it's about getting better at everything and never stopping. You can be the best but you can never stop growing," he shared, before noting that he always enters interviews fully aware that anything he says could be taken out of context.</P><P>"Right now, I have to think two seconds in advance, like, 'What am I gonna say?' But I try my best to moderate what I'm gonna say, to say it so I don't make any mistakes," he admitted. "So people aren't, like, twisting my words."</p>
